Ruth is an award winning Dental Surgeon who has gained recognition for her work in the field of Dentistry known as Facial Aesthetics, in which it is the soft tissues and features of the face which are enhanced and improved rather than the teeth and gums. It is carried out by various non-surgical techniques.
She was the winner of the Facial Aesthetics Full Face category in the FMC Aesthetic Dentistry Awards in London 2017. She was also highly commended in the other two categories, Botulinum Toxin and Peri-oral Dermal Fillers.
Ruth graduated from Liverpool University Dental School in 1981. She spent 34 years as a partner in a general dental practice with her husband, doing general and cosmetic dentistry which they sold in 2008.
In 2004 she started training in the field of Facial Aesthetics introducing this into her practice. Using her indepth knowledge of head and neck anatomy, profiles and jaw relationships combined with her manual skills and flair for facial analysis, she underwent extensive post graduate training. She was infected by the enthusiasm of a world leading clinician, Professor Bob Khanna and attended his full range of courses including the Supermasterclass on the full face. She continues to ensure that she keeps abreast of current advances in techniques and can treat a wide variety of cases including some very challenging ones. She now just concentrates her time on Facial Aesthetic work, a subject that she is passionate about, taking referrals from all across the country.
In 2014, having relocated to North Yorkshire, Ruth was invited to join the team at Dental Excellence at Harewood, a prestigious referral and teaching practice. Here she uses her skills and knowledge of Facial Aesthetics to complement the work of the other specialists and experts in the dental team, by treating ‘the frame’ as opposed to ‘the picture’(teeth). She can offer a more conservative way of treating some dental problems such as where there is an excessive amount of gum on show, using Botulinum toxin and dermal fillers.
Ruth was invited to be a Senior Instructor by Professor Khanna at his prominent teaching institute for facial aesthetics in Berkshire. In recognition of her work there, she was invited to be on the panel of judges for the FMC Facial Aesthetics awards in 2016. She was also made a Gold member of IAAFA and in March 2016 she won a competition at ‘Aesthetic Medicine Live’ at Olympia for the best treatment planning skills.
She has been awarded Excellence rating with Save Face the government backed regulatory body which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority and so Ruth is now on their accredited register. Due to this, Dental Excellence is now an Excellence rated clinic. ‘Excellence at Excellence’! Save Face is recognised by the Department of Health, NHS, England, the CQC and Health Education England. It seeks to distinguish between healthcare and the wider beauty industry.
Ruth is a great believer in natural results, consistent with normal anatomy. In her in-depth consultations, she tries to understand exactly what her patient’s concerns are and what they would like to achieve. It is important that both patient and operator have a clear view of objectives and expectations before treatment commences. Using the most up to date techniques utilising cannulae rather than needles, she is able to reduce ‘down-time’ to a minimum and allow patients to return to work or social activities quicker.
Her work has boosted the appearance and confidence of many patients to date and she has produced 2 books to illustrate her work, which are used for patient education and show how this type of work can make such a difference to the face and yet look so natural.
