Non-surgical Rhinoplasty

Overview

The size and shape of your nose can have a big effect on your overall appearance. It’s the central feature of your face, and if it’s not in proportion or is hooked or bent, your self-confidence can really suffer.

Up until quite recently, if you felt self-conscious about your nose and wanted to do something about it, then rhinoplasty was your only option. However, although very effective, surgical rhinoplasty is an extremely invasive procedure that involves a considerable amount of painful recovery time.

These issues, coupled with the high cost of the procedure, as well as its permanent nature, led both patients and practitioners alike to try and come up with a less drastic alternative. This search led to the development of the non-surgical nose job, a procedure that has become increasingly popular over the past 10 years.

  • What is it and How Does it Work?

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a medical procedure which involves the altering or reshaping of the nose with injectable fillers. By filling in depressions, smoothing out sharp angles and improving the symmetry of the nose, these injectable fillers can give it a more streamlined appearance without surgery.

    • What Results Can I Expect?

The procedure can be performed quickly and easily – it usually takes between fifteen and thirty minutes – and results are immediate.

The fillers used in non-surgical rhinoplasty are temporary and will be broken down by the body naturally after time. Results last anywhere between 8 – 10 months depending on the type of dermal filler used, and your medical practitioner should be able to advise you on which is right for you.

      • Am I Suitable for Treatment?

There are a number of medical conditions and or medicines that may affect the decision to treat or the treatment plan. A full medical history and assessment of your expectations is necessary in advance of any decision to treat.

        With any injectable treatment;

        • Treatment is not recommended if you are suffering from any skin infection in or near the treatment area or are unwell in any way (even a cold).
        • If you have previously experienced allergic reactions to any dermal filler or local anaesthetic.
        • If you are taking any medicines which affect bleeding, such as aspirin or warfarin.
        • If you are taking steroids or have autoimmune disease.
        • If you have any bleeding disorders.
        •  If you suffer from a poorly controlled medical condition.
        • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are currently or have recently completed a course of Roacutane (Isotretinoin acne treatment) in the last 18 months.
        • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

        • After the Treatment?
          • The vast majority of patients are able to carry on with their daily activities immediately after the procedure, but heavy glasses of any kind should be avoided for the first two weeks as they can affect the results.
          • Your practitioner will provide aftercare advice designed to minimise risk and promote speedy recovery from any expected side effects.
          • Most people are able to continue with normal activities with immediate improvement in their appearance. Some will have some redness, pin prick marks, possibly swelling- particularly in the lips.
          • Possibly bruising.
          • Any swelling and bruising may be more apparent the next day.
          • Make-up should not be worn for 12 hours
          •  You will be advised to avoid alcohol, vigorous exercise, sunbathing, and extremes of heat or cold for 14 days post treatment.

        • Does it Hurt

Most leading brands also contain a local anaesthetic and most clinicians will apply topical anaesthetic cream, or ice, prior to treatment to numb the skin. Treatment need not be painful.

          • Is it Safe & are There any Side Effects?

All treatments carry a degree of risk.

All risks and complications will be discussed with you at consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed.
