The Sign of Safe Non-Surgical
Cosmetic Treatments

The eyes and ears of non-surgical cosmetic practice

Non-surgical treatments can be administered by untrained practitioners. Save Face will only connect you with qualified, trained and certified medical professionals.

Published 6th July 2020

An amendment to The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (No. 2) (England) Regulations 2020 was published on Friday the 3rd of July. The list of beauty specific businesses that are still subject to closure was amended to include the wording:

Spas, and beauty salons, and for these purposes, “beauty salon” includes any premises providing beauty services including cosmetic, aesthetic and wellness treatments.

In light of the amendment, Save Face submitted a request for further clarification from the Department of Health and policy directors at Trading Standards and Environmental Health, as the updated legislation still does not reference regulated healthcare professionals and does not refer to medical aesthetic treatments specifically. Save Face has argued the case at the highest levels that there is a clear distinction between medical aesthetics performed by clinicians and aesthetics performed by beauty therapists.

The Department of Health has confirmed today that this revision is to provide further clarity and reach to the beauty sector- it DOES NOT apply to medical aesthetics performed by regulated clinicians following a medical model.

Save Face is a register that is exclusive to regulated healthcare professionals, our standards and accreditation model stipulate that our members operate their practice in accordance with a medical model that have clear clinical guidelines and protocols to which they must adhere to. We have never considered the treatments carried out by our members as ‘beauty therapy’ services.

If you choose to open you must ensure you have taken and can evidence all the precautions we have recommended and further, that you can evidence a clear medical model in your practice; this would include patient selection, assessment, consultation, consent, with all being documented in the medical record. This medical model should also be reflected in any marketing or social media communications.

We expect all our registrants planning to resume service will refer to our Covid-19 Operational Protocol and self certify against it. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding compliance with this policy standard.
