Making the Most of Your Twenties – Procedures for Prevention
Depending on your age group, what you’re looking for in a non-surgical cosmetic procedure is likely to be different. From preventative measures to procedures that will repair damage already done, the number of procedures available are vast, and it can be difficult to know where to start. That’s why here at Save Face, we’ve put together a series of blog posts that will look at the best treatments for you, whatever your age group.
This month it’s the turn of the twenties, when prevention is far better than cure.
Hitting your twenties can be a shock to the system. You probably don’t spring back quite so quickly from late nights and long weekends, and you might even start to notice a fine line or two. Your twenties are a decade to be celebrated. Your worrisome teens are a thing of the past, your career is well on its way.
Your twenties are a time for paying attention to yourself, for appreciating your body and your skin while it’s at its peak and really making the most of your appearance. At this stage in your life, it’s all about looking after what you have rather than undergoing drastic self-altering procedures.
You may suffer from problem skin, or even acne. Acne scars or stretch marks which happened in your teens can be helped, now you have access to non-surgical cosmetic procedures and treatments.
You are now of an age where make-up, late nights, holidays in the sun, smoking and alcohol may be an important part of your life style, and your skin will need looking after now to prevent damage later.
If you haven’t already started paying careful attention to your skincare regime, then your early twenties are the time to do it. Take the time to get to know your skin; is it dry, oily or a combination of both? The skincare products that you use should be suited to your skin type, and should definitely include eye cream, a serum packed with anti-oxidants, and a high SPF to combat sun damage. Use quality products regularly to see real results, and remember, along with living a moderately healthy lifestyle, protecting your skin from the sun is the single most important thing you can do to prevent premature ageing.
Save Face accredited practitioners can assess your skin and advice on appropriate skin care for your skin type and life style. We all make the mistake of spending a fortune on skin care, which provides, ‘hope in a jar’ but doesn’t deliver the results we are looking for. Without expert advice many do more harm than good, simply because the products we choose are wrong for our skin type.

Botulinum Toxin Injections
Crows feet, along with frown and worry lines, all tend to be the first major signs of ageing that appear on the face. All of these lines can be successfully treated using botulinum toxin injections, which work by blocking the signals between nerves and muscles, preventing them from furrowing and causing permanent wrinkles.
Although botulinum toxin injections work effectively to relax wrinkles that have already appeared, they work particularly well as a preventative measure, and can be appropriate if you are someone with a frowning habit or early wrinkles. Although the ‘frozen face’ has become fashionable for some, it is not advisable to have treatment too often at an early age, those expressions of emotion and communication are important to express your personality and feelings and whilst your skin is still young, you can afford some movement, whilst still preventing the wrinkles setting in.
Seek advice and guidance from your Save face accredited practitioner to ensure a treatment plan that is safe and works for you.

Medical needling is another non-surgical cosmetic procedure that works well to prevent premature ageing.
The procedure involves the use of a device which pricks the skin with a series of small, ultra-fine needles in order to stimulate the body’s production of collagen and elastin, the proteins that make skin firm and elastic.
It can be very helpful to correct early sun damage, even in young skins, also to reduce the size of large pores often suffered by those with oily skins and is a very effective treatment to improve the appearance of acne scars and stretch marks.

There are varying degrees of chemical peels, and each are suited to quite different requirements. Peels can be helpful for a range of skin conditions, from dull tired skin, to problem skin, oily or dry, sun damaged or even acne skins. Chemical peels in your twenties, can help address a range of skin problems or simply provide a boost prior to a special event or to help the skin recover from stress or neglect.
These are by no means an exhaustive list of the non-surgical cosmetic treatments and procedures available to you in your twenties to help prevent the signs of ageing, but they’re a great place to start.
Whatever treatment you do decide on, be sure to use the Save Face search engine to find an accredited, qualified professional practitioner so that you can be sure that you’re putting your face in the safest hands possible.
